Artist Highlight // Adam Kubert (2012)
I have the highest respect for every artist featured in “Artist Highlight”, they have some incredible skills that bring characters that I love to life with the trace of a pencil, with Adam’s artwork however my admiration evolves to love without effort. Adam Kubert is my favorite artist, period. There’s no big turn around that one, this man along his brother has defined comic penciling into visual spectacles with dynamic art that showcase heroes as they are supposed to look. Adam stands out as the best storyteller of both with panels that defies the limit of the square box and go beyond requirement to make you feel the grandeur of these heroes and the epic challenges they face.
Adam started out as a letterer at the tender age of 12, he studied to be an artist and graduated with a degree as a medical illustrator, but it was his father, the legendary Joe Kubert who taught him everything at The Kubert School located in Dover, New Jersey. He has worked for both publishers in the past twenty years and while his body of work is not as large as most of other artists in the big leagues, he more than makes up for it with quality, imagining and experimental use of tools. I highly recommend his run in Incredible Hulk, Uncanny X-Men and the almost classic “Superman: Last Son” so you can see what I’m talking about.
Adam Kubert is the top artist in this industry for my money, he may be a slow one, but every comic drawn by this man is worth the time of reading and the appreciation of every line, every panel from beginning to end. His rendition of Wolverine is definitive to this character, even more so than Jim Lee’s. That’s how good this guy is for me.
