The doctor explains how the tardis is bigger on this inside (x)
Help. This actually makes sense.
Indeed, one of the most fascinating moments in Classic Who!
Time And Relative Dimensions In Space
you know, this lines up with a thought that I’ve had before; which is that the magnificent part of the TARDIS isn’t “inside” the box, it’s behind the door. My thinking is that the rest of the box just holds the door up, and opening the door is what takes you to somewhere else—a point outside of your present positioning in time and space—and allows you to exist somewhere else; a place further away, in an area that stands still while time and space rotate around you.
This would further explain the continued significance of the TARDIS key.
